The highest serial number I have observed is 175, suggesting that the quantity produced was small. MATERIAL/FINISH COMPOSITION: Blued steel. The 3 digit serial number could be a CG 1898 rifle ( serial number 1 to 32xx ) or Mauser 1900 rifle ( serial number 1 to 5000 ) rifle serial number. Due to this, a misunderstanding occurred regarding the identification between the Model 1896 and Model 1897.
The receiver was numbered to match the rest of the parts.
The Schultz & Larsen M52 and M58 Target Rifles used shortened and refurbished Karabiner 98k stocks. Between 5,000 and 8,000 of the rifles were built for Spain.
Spanish Mauser ID Just got this baby so for now it is an unknown year Model 1893 Spanish Mauser. At some point in time the receiver did not pass inspection, so it had to be replaced. The early pistols have well-made wooden grips, and are highly polished and richly blued.
